This week Life in Mind are hosting a collaborative networking event, with guest speaker Professor Rory O’Connor who will be sharing key learnings and insights into suicide prevention activities in Scotland.
A well-respected figure in the suicide prevention sector, Professor Rory O’Connor brings with him more than 20 years’ experience as a researcher, clinician and suicide prevention advocate.
He currently leads the Suicidal Behaviour Research Laboratory at the University of Glasgow and will lead an interactive event designed to encourage sector discussion and shared learning.
Hosted at Merewether Surfhouse, the In Conversation event will include an interactive, live Question and Answer session on key areas of suicide prevention where participants will be invited to ask questions.
The session will be followed by an intensive workshop designed to provide participants with opportunities to share knowledge while also discovering expert insights from research and practice globally.
The workshops will encourage participants to consider how they can adapt these key learnings in order to put into practice locally.
According to Amanda McAtamney, Suicide Prevention Project Lead at Everymind, Rory’s involvement in the event presents an exciting opportunity for the national suicide prevention sector.
“As the national suicide prevention gateway for knowledge sharing and collaboration, Life in Mind is delighted to welcome Rory to Newcastle for this event,” Ms McAtamney said.
“I am looking forward to the discussions, topics and questions which will be raised and seeing some of the leaders within the suicide prevention sector collaborating on how to tackle some of the big challenges facing the sector.”
Part of the annual Expert in Residence Series, the In Conversations event is one of a number events which brings international experts to the Hunter for a range of workshops, lectures and meetings aimed at building capacity among health professional, researchers, businesses and the public.
