Visit the National Communications Charter Hub at NSPC

Posted 17th July 2019

Life in Mind invites leaders from the suicide prevention sector to visit the National Communications Charter Hub (The Hub) at the 2019 National Suicide Prevention Conference (NSPC) in Melbourne next week.

The Hub is a dedicated space where NSPC attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the National Communications Charter (The Charter), a unified approach that promotes a common language around discussing mental health, mental ill-health and suicide.

At The Hub, attendees can sign The Charter, take photos and participate in videos to support The Charter and its guiding principles.

The Hub can be found on the ground floor of the conference venue and will be accessible over the four conference days.

Everymind Suicide Prevention Project Lead, Simon Pont said the Life in Mind team is excited to provide this dedicated space for the more than 600 national and international delegates to engage in all topics related to The Charter.

“The Life in Mind national digital gateway plays a key role in connecting people with current information, services and programs, data and research, which is why we feel it is important to provide a specific space where attendees can engage directly with The Charter,” Mr Pont said.

“We launched the #SupportTheCharter campaign from 1 July, sharing how Everymind staff have made a personal commitment to reducing stigma around mental ill-health and suicide, while also promoting help-seeking behaviour through The Charter's guiding principles and messages.

“As the sector comes together at NSPC19 to connect and share around suicide prevention policy and activities, it is fitting that we encourage individuals to visit The Hub and sign The Charter so that we can all be united in action to reduce stigma.”

Each day, conference attendees will have the opportunity to receive a free KeepCup if they are among the first 25 people to sign The Charter at The Hub.

NSPC, which is hosted by Suicide Prevention Australia (SPA), features a robust, engaging program of national and international keynote speakers, complemented with a suite of presentations from people and organisations across Australia as well as exhibitions and workshops.

“By signing The Charter, individuals are agreeing to communicate in ways that are safe and to actively work to increase help-seeking behaviour, reduce stigma and encourage collaboration,” Mr Pont said.

“NSPC19 provides an opportunity for individuals from the sector to come together to ensure an inclusive and proactive response to preventing suicide.”
