Dr Scott Fitzpatrick is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health (CRRMH), The University of Newcastle, Australia. Primarily a qualitative researcher, his work explores topics such as the social and political determinants of suicide and mental health; methodological and ethical issues in suicide research, policy and practice; rural suicide; and lived experience. The interdisciplinary scope of Dr Fitzpatrick’s research is evidenced by publications in leading international peer reviewed journals including Medical Journal of Australia, Philosophy, Psychiatry & Psychology, Public Health Research and Practice, and the International Journal of Health Services. He has also authored reports for community and professional audiences.
In his role at the CRRMH, Dr Fitzpatrick has undertaken a range of community-based research aimed at strengthening health systems and improving mental health outcomes for people in rural NSW. These include evaluation of a community mental health integrated care service in Mudgee NSW and community consultations and work plan design to support planning of suicide prevention activities for the National Suicide Prevention Trial in western NSW.
